A pilonidal cyst is a closed sac under the skin at the top of the crease between the buttocks. Treatment methods for pilonidal cysts include:

  • Incision and drainage: A cut (incision) is made in the cyst, and the infected material, such as pus, is drained out.
  • Excision: The entire cyst is removed (excised) by cutting within the dotted line shown on the picture.
