Lifestyle changes to protect yourself
Entire books have been written about how to eat better, exercise more, and make other lifestyle changes to reduce your risk for heart disease. This section will summarize the highlights. But first some motivation: You may be surprised at how effective making even one of these changes can be. For instance, following a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products, is low in saturated fats, and limits sodium intake to 1,600 mg/day can be just as effective as taking a medication to lower blood pressure.
