How Often Should You Have Sex?

By THE EDITORS AT NETSCAPE
Dr. Mehmet Oz, Oprah Winfrey's favorite physician, gave a fun health quiz on a recent "Oprah" show to help people determine their health IQ.

Dr. Oz asked 16 questions, including:

What shape should your poop be?

When have you had enough water?

What is the most dangerous fat on your body?

Impotence could be a sign of what?

What causes brain freeze?

But the question that generated the most interest was: How often should you have sex? The multiple choice options: once a week, twice a week, 10 times a month, 200 times a year.

The answer: 200 times a year.

"If you have more than 200 orgasms a year, you can reduce your physiologic age by six years," Dr. Oz says, basing this number on a study from researchers at Duke University who surveyed people about the amount and quality of sex they had. "They looked at what happened to folks that are having a lot of intercourse over time, and the fact is, it correlated." Frequent sex helps prove that your body is functioning as it is supposed to. "But in addition, having sex with someone that you care for deeply is one of the ways we achieve that Zen experience that we all crave as human beings," says Dr. Oz. "It's really a spiritual event for folks when they're with someone they love and they can consummate it with sexual activity...seems to offer some survival benefit."

Curious about the answers to the other questions?

What shape should your poop be? The answer is S-shaped. Poop, before it comes out, gets stored in the bottom of your rectum. If it's unable to be stored there and achieve that shape, it means that your waste is not working well.

When have you had enough water? The answer is when your urine is clear enough to read through. The purpose of urine is to get rid of waste through urea, Dr. Oz says. Clear urine means that you've gotten enough fluid to wash it all out.

What is the most dangerous fat on your body? The answer is the fat in your belly. When the fat is stored in your stomach, your body has easy access to it. The fat then creates an inflammatory process that irritates your arteries and puts you at risk for blocked arteries.

Impotence could be a sign of what? The answer is heart disease. Dr. Oz says impotence is one of the first signs the heart is having hardened arteries.

What causes "brain freeze"? The answer is dilation of arteries. When you eat ice cream, it stimulates the back of your mouth because it's cold and the arteries spasm. After they close down, they relax. This lets too much blood go to your brain, and you get the headache.
