Surgery

There are no surgeries to treat type 2 diabetes.

Studies indicate that the large weight loss provided by stomach surgery improves blood sugar control in people who are extremely overweight.14 But this is a difficult procedure, and it can only be done on people who meet specific criteria. If you are extremely overweight, talk with your doctor about whether you would be a good candidate for stomach surgery. For more information, see the topic Obesity.
