    Have you tried to lose weight so many times that you feel like a professional dieter? Neris Thomas and India Knight (pictured left to right) used to feel that way too, but together these women we able to shed 140 pounds in just one a year (each lost 70 pounds). We asked the pair, who detail their weight-loss journey in "Neris and India's Idiot-Proof Diet," to share their top tips so you can successfully slim down too.

    Accept that you're going to blow it.

    Cheating on your diet is inevitable, but if you make peace with the fact that you're going slip-up every once in a while, you won't be as likely to throw in the towel after it happens. Instead, acknowledge the mistake and get back on track as soon as possible.

    Find a weight-loss buddy.

    It was only after Thomas and Knight teamed up that they were able to dump the weight. But they warn against picking your most competitive friend; instead, choose somebody who's supportive and encouraging. And if you can't find a friend, consider joining a weight-loss support group, like Weight Watchers.

    Get your emotions under control.

    Knight and Thomas both admit that emotions often caused them to overeat. Rather than turning to food when you're stressed, depressed or cranky, try one of these strategies: Go for a walk, take a bath, dance to your favorite song for a few minutes, call a friend or take yourself out for coffee.

    Carry a reminder of why you want to lose weight.

    Thomas, for instance, wrote down a chant about why she wanted to lose the weight that read: "I want to be fit, I want to be strong, what do you, what do you, what do you want to be? Fit fit fit. And wear a size 12 pair of really nice jeans." Whenever she was troubled by food, she pulled it out and was able to stick to her intentions.

    Keep a lid on your diet plans.

    This may sound counterintuitive -- after all, shouldn't you want friends' support? With the exception of your diet buddy, the answer is no. Knight and Thomas say friends will often try to sabotage you. Besides, you're doing this for you, not other people, and by announcing your diet intentions you invite other people's comments and criticism.

    Give up your fat-person clothes.

    "Stop wearing clothes that hide you the most," the authors write. Yes, they'll conceal that flab, but bulky clothes just make you look bulkier. So go through your closet and get rid of that shirt that looks like a tent and that potato sack posing as a dress. Then head to the store and buy clothes that fit you better.

    Shun simple carbs.

    Foods like bread, rice, and pasta helped make you fat in the first place, the authors say. Ditch these carbs and opt for healthier, complex carbohydrates, such as whole-wheat bread, oatmeal and brown rice.

    Never eat standing up.

    Why? You won't be satisfied. Instead, you'll be dissatisfied with eating -- perhaps because you're eating in a rush and not savoring your food. As a result, you could overeat, which then packs on pounds.

    Be in it for the long haul.

    Realizing that there is no short-term solution to losing weight was a turning point for Thomas. "No diet ever taught me this before," she says, admitting that she now thinks about the long-term effects of whatever she eats.

      jamalihess........ are you blind or just stupid. There is a drastic difference between the before and after photos. So you dont have as much to lose as these gals, lucky you. No matter how much you lose I have a feeling you will still be ugly on the inside. I too look something like the after photos and am so encouraged by their progress.Way to go girls.

      I used the South Beach Diet very easy to use. In 10 days I lost around 10lbs. I have leveled off after that. In one month, with diet and exercise I have gone from 170lbs to 153lbs. Most of it was in my belly but I am an apple not a pear anyway

      I think we need more community gardens. You get fit by growing your own food. It tastes better anyway. I'm tired to going to the grocery store just to pick out stuff that isn't rotten or bruised. We don't need to fly in grapes from Chile - just grow them yourself. It's hard to eat healthy when it just doesn't taste good anymore. I haven't had a good orange in years and I can't turn every place I rent into a greenhouse either. I'm not fat but I do miss the good stuff. A good apricot does taste like candy to me. The ones at the grocery store barely have a flavor and are all nasty. Sweetjuliek hawk your stupid cookbook somewhere else! I'm tired of you offering it as a solution for everything from depression to obesity! Advertise you ass like everyone else has to!

      best way is eating more fruits and veggies and little meat, plus vitamins and minerals with 6 glasses of water before noon. safer than most diets. easy too. its drinking enough water that does it. if you feel you cant lose, take adrenaline, its a glandular which will speed up the loss of weight. all you have to do is take one adrenaline a day, plus walk 30 minutes every other day, and you will lose weight.but if you cut out ALLjunk foods, you would be surprised how fast you will lose weight!

      they both look big, the after pics, are as big as i am, and i want to loseweight, this does nothing to encourge me...they need more dieting!!!
