    Each phase of the Ultimate New York Diet comes with acceptable "staples." The first phase consists almost entirely of low-starch vegetables, salmon, chicken, egg whites and nuts, while the second and third phases include these foods, as well as beans, berries, lentils, sweet potatoes, apples and quinoa. Kirsch also presents lists for what you won’t be eating in each of the three phases. No bread, dairy, fruit or alcohol are allowed early on.
