The Hallelujah Diet
In 1976, Rev. George Malkmus, an upstate New York pastor, was diagnosed with colon cancer. After his recovery, Malkmus opened the Hallelujah Acres restaurant and health food store. According to Malkmus, living nutrients found in raw foods and their juices are "what meet and satisfy our cells' nutritional needs."

Based on Genesis 1:29, the vegetarian diet primarily consists of eating 85 percent raw to 15 percent cooked fruit and vegetables.

The diet regimen includes not only the program's product drink mixes such as BarleyMix, but an extensive list of foods to avoid. The diet restricts eating all meats, dairy or refined flour products (including cold breakfast cereals), white rice or eggs.

For example, dairy alternatives include almond and banana milk. Foods allowed include high amounts of raw fruit and vegetables, unprocessed grains and use of extra virgin olive oil or flaxseed oil. Cooked food portions include caffeine-free herbal teas, cooked beans, non-dairy cheese and brown rice. Instead of sugar, Malkmus encourages the use of unfiltered honey or pure maple syrup.

Body by God
In his book, "Body By God: The Owner's Manual for Maximized Living," Ben Lerner promotes a diet based on "foods given by God" and exercise after witnessing his parents' death due to poor health. He has a background in nutrition and chiropractic medicine.

The primary goal is similar to the Maker's Diet in reducing man-made foods such as pork products, sugar substitutes, hydrogenated oils, additives, fried foods, caffeine, refined sugar and table salt.

The nutritional component is to increase "food given by God" which include natural fruits, vegetables, nuts, organic beef and poultry, fish and herbs. As the program teaches Americans to "un-diet" and how to write a calorie meal plan.

Lerner also advocates regular exercise. His program encourages aerobics and cardio exercises by targeting four "moving zones" related to the heart rate.
