Should a person be prescribed both a tri-cyclic antidepressant and Zoloft?

I suffered one episode of depression and recovered using escitalopram (Lexapro) and lorazepam (Ativan). After 6 months, on my doctor's advice, I stopped taking these drugs. I experienced another episode of depression. Now I am on the same medication, but even after 5 months I am not getting relief. Is a second episode more dangerous than the first? Is depression ever permanently cured?
