Who is affected by bullying

Bullying starts in elementary school and becomes most common in middle school. By high school, it is less common but still occurs.

In a 2003 survey of schools in the United States, about 7% of children in the United States between ages 12 and 18 reported that they were bullied in the previous 6 months. The number of children who reported being bullied in 2003 was about the same as it was in 2001.1

Another study of students in grades 6 through 10 found that about 13 students out of 100 reported they had bullied others, nearly 11 out of 100 said they were bullied, and about 6 out of 100 had both bullied others and been bullied.2
