Vomiting following a head injury
Vomiting following a head injury
Vomiting once or twice after a head injury is not uncommon. A head injury that causes slight movement of the brain inside the skull may cause nausea and vomiting for a short time.
Home treatment may relieve the nausea and may help prevent persistent vomiting and dehydration.
After a head injury, vomiting may be a symptom of increased pressure within the skull if:
- Violent vomiting lasts longer than 15 minutes.
- Vomiting occurs more than 3 times in 6 hours.
When vomiting is violent or lasts longer than 2 hours, immediate medical attention is needed.
