U.S. Preventive Services Task Force guidelines for a cholesterol test


The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends testing for total and HDL cholesterol for the following people:1

  • Men ages 35 and older
  • Men between 20 and 35 years old who have risk factors for heart disease
  • Women ages 20 and older who have risk factors for heart disease
