Urinary symptoms that do not get better or go away after treatment with antibiotics

Symptoms that do not improve after treatment with antibiotics may mean that both the symptoms and the treatment need to be reevaluated.

Call the health professional who prescribed the antibiotic if the symptoms:

  • Get worse or do not go away after 48 hours of antibiotic treatment.
  • Return after treatment has ended.

Sometimes you may need a different strength or type of antibiotic to cure the infection.
