Types of uterine fibroids

Different types of uterine fibroids include the following:

  • Intramural fibroids grow within the uterine wall. They are the most common type of fibroids.
  • Submucosal fibroids protrude into the uterine cavity.
  • Pedunculated fibroids are attached to the uterus by a "stalk," somewhat like the stem of a plant.
  • Intraligamentous fibroids grow inside the tissue that holds the uterus in place.
