Social skills training for people with schizophrenia
Social skills training classes teach people with schizophrenia how to improve skills to get along with other people.
Class topics may include:
- Acceptable public behavior.
- Conversation skills, including group conversation skills.
- Developing leisure activities.
- Decision making and taking responsibility.
- Using public services, such as public transportation.
- Coping with frustration.
- Giving and receiving praise and criticism.
Social skills training classes can also include very specific types of education, such as classes on:
- Parenting.
- Anger management.
- Assertiveness.
- Basic hygiene.
- Money management.
Role playing is an important part of social skills training classes. Role playing may include acting out common situations, such as asking for help or interviewing for a job.
