Purified chick embryo cell culture (PCEC) for rabies vaccination

Purified chick embryo cell culture (PCEC) is a vaccine for the prevention of rabies that has been approved for use in the United States. It also is available in some other countries.

  • PCEC can be used for pre- and postexposure treatment for rabies and is as effective as the HDCV and RVA rabies vaccines.
  • PCEC is prepared in purified chick embryo cell cultures, so people who are allergic to eggs should not use this vaccine.
