General Discussion
Pick's Disease is a very rare progressive disease that affects certain areas of the brain (i.e., temporal and frontal lobes). Symptoms of this disorder may include loss of intellectual abilities and changes in behavior (e.g., lack of inhibition) and personality. Affected individuals may exhibit confusion and a general lack of concern about their surroundings. Other symptoms may include unusual speech patterns and the repetition of another's words (echolalia). In the majority of cases, the exact cause of Pick's Disease is not known; however, about 10 to 20 percent of cases are thought to be inherited as an autosomal dominant genetic trait.
