Persistent nausea

Many things can cause persistent nausea. Persistent nausea may cause loss of appetite, and you may naturally eat less and lose weight.

Possible causes of persistent nausea include:

  • The effects of stress or an emotional situation.
  • The side effects of a medication, such as an antibiotic or heart medication.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Traveling to a high altitude.
  • Anxiety or depression.
  • A problem with the digestive tract, such as an irritation, inflammation, infection, or a digestive disorder.
  • A problem with the heart, lungs, kidney, or liver.
  • Cancer.

Call your doctor for an evaluation if you have ongoing persistent nausea, loss of appetite, or unexplained weight loss.
