Nerve block injections for shingles

In a nerve block procedure, medication to relieve pain (anesthetic) is injected around the affected nerve. The anesthetic may relieve pain for several days, but the pain often returns.1

Nerve block injections are expensive and may need to be repeated several times over the course of a week to be effective.
