Medical history for a blocked tear duct

During the medical history for a blocked tear duct, the health professional will ask the parents of a baby with a possible blocked tear duct the following questions:

Was there a problem during your baby's birth?
Do your baby's eyes often look wet? Do tears often run down his or her face? When did you first notice these symptoms?
Has your baby had any eye or sinus infections?
Has your baby had any injuries or surgery on his or her face?
Does your family have a history of blocked tear ducts?

The health professional will ask adults similar questions and may also ask the following:

Have you been exposed to any strong chemicals or irritating substances (such as smoke or blowing dust) for a long period of time?
Do you have a history of allergies?
Have you noticed what seems to make your symptoms better or worse?
