Loose or unstable hip

If your hip joint feels loose or unstable after an injury, one or more ligaments in your hip or pelvis may have partially or completely torn. Torn ligaments may occur at the same time as another injury, such as a dislocation or a broken bone (fracture). Treatment depends on the location, type, and severity of the ligament injury; the presence of other injuries; and your age, health condition, and activities.

A feeling of looseness or hip instability can also occur after a total hip replacement or other types of hip surgery. Evaluation by your health professional is needed.
