Change in the appearance or feel of your penis not related to an erection

A change in the appearance or feel of your penis may occur with even a minor injury. The injury may have been so minor that you did not realize you were injured. These symptoms will usually go away without any treatment.

Some problems that change the way your penis looks or feels need medical evaluation, such as:

  • The slow appearance of a lump in the shaft of the penis or bending with an erection (Peyronie's disease).
  • A tight foreskin (phimosis). Phimosis usually is present at birth (congenital), but it also can be caused by infection or inflammation underneath the foreskin.
  • A retracted foreskin that tightens and can't return to its normal position (paraphimosis). This condition can cut off blood supply to the head of the penis. Paraphimosis requires immediate medical evaluation to prevent serious complications.
