A Prevention panel road-tested the Prevention Diabetes DTOUR Diet, a science-backed eating plan to lower blood sugar and reduce the risk of developing diabetes and its complications, --with truly extraordinary results. They lost weight (as much as 25 pounds!), lowered blood sugar (up to 182 points!), and zapped belly fat (as many as 10 inches!)--in just 6 weeks!

See their stick-to-it secrets and favorite foods now!

"I lost 6.5 inches of belly fat!"

    Jean Nick, 48

Favorite DTOUR meal: Chicken salad with avocado yogurt dressing
Best words of advice: "Get extra measuring utensils! Using them has really opened our eyes to what healthy portions should look like."

    Jean's story:
Jean felt her weight creeping up. It had gotten to the point where she was uncomfortable in her own skin and hot weather caused chafing. Plus, Jean knew the implications of extra weight: Her partner, Tom, had type 2 diabetes and was on medication. (See his results on the next slide!)

Jean loves DTOUR because it features foods she and Tom already enjoyed eating. "We just needed help with portions," she says. She worried that the meals would leave her hungry, but they were so satisfying that she sometimes couldn't finish them. "And everything tasted so good!" she says.

"This isn't just a weight loss diet," she adds. "It's a sensible way of eating. This diet lets you eat real food!" Jean actually enjoys weighing herself now and watching the numbers go down. In just 6 weeks, she went from size 20 to 16--and the 16s are loose: "I have no pants that fit me. It's a great feeling!"

"I cut my meds in half!"

    Tom Colbaugh, 55

    Blood Sugar: Down 78 points!
Favorite DTOUR food: Bagel with cream cheese and salmon
Best words of advice: "It's easy to look for the quick fix if you have diabetes or blood sugar problems, which is to take a pill. The best thing to do is modify how you eat. What you put in your mouth definitely affects your health."

    Tom's Story:
At 54, Tom's pretty active. He plays golf and owns a farm that keeps him busy with chores. But he doesn't burn calories the way he did as a young athlete who could eat anything and never gain weight. He tried to adjust his eating over the years, but change came hard and the pounds piled on. Then he developed type 2 diabetes--the same disease that had ended his father's life at age 69--and the medications made Tom hungrier.

For Tom, his relationship with his partner, Jean, inspired him to stop the cycle. "There's a lot of motivation because we would like to stay together for a while," he says with a smile.

Jean put them on DTOUR, which taught them portion control and helped Tom rein in his sweet tooth. Tom's blood sugar began to drop immediately. In just 6 weeks, he cut his meds in half and now walks the golf course instead of riding in carts.

Tom has made a permanent switch to eating the DTOUR way. For him, he says,"the results are undeniable."

"I'm winning the fight against diabetes!"

    Charlene Greenfield, 34

    Blood Sugar: Down 13 points!
Favorite DTOUR snack: "Apple slices with peanut butter. Delicious and easy to make!"
Best words of advice: "Have a plan B so excuses won't stand between you and success. For example, when it's raining, I walk in the mall instead of in my neighborhood. And I keep a bag of nuts on me so I have something to snack on if there's nothing healthy available when I'm out."

    Charlene's Story:
"Three years ago, my doctor diagnosed me with prediabetes and said that I was well on my way to developing full-blown diabetes. That really worried me--several of my family members have diabetes, so I know how bad it can be.

"I was skeptical before starting DTOUR. I've tried almost every diet out there and thought this would be another one where the food was tasteless and the results were minimal. I'm happy to say that I was wrong! The meals are tasty and filling--and I'm someone who loves burgers, fries, and milkshakes! I couldn't believe how quickly the weight came off. I lost 19 pounds in the first 6 weeks, and I dropped another 10 pounds over the next month.
"I've learned that one good habit leads to another. After I started eating better on the DTOUR plan, I had more energy, so exercising didn't seem as hard as it used to. The more I exercised, the less I wanted to eat junk.

"I haven't looked or felt this good in years! I feel like I'm on my way to reclaiming my life."

"I lowered my blood sugar drastically!"

    Patricia Boyd, 59

    Lost: 10.8 pounds!
    Favorite DTOUR snack: Yogurt parfait
Best words of advice: "Use low-calorie flavors to stay satisfied. I'd add Cajun spices or hot sauce to kick up some dishes. And instead of drinking plain old water, I have club soda with lime in the evening-it's taken the place of my nightcap."

    Patricia's story:
"I've worked at the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi for 15 years. When I learned I had prediabetes, I knew I needed to start practicing what I preach.

"My husband, Lee, and I started the diet together. (See his results on the next slide!) We both love to cook and enjoyed putting our own spin on some of the recipes. Neither Lee nor I had ever been breakfast eaters, but we found it helped control our hunger and gave us more energy, too. We both lost more than 10 pounds. In fact, after just 6 weeks, I had to buy new pants because my old ones were falling off! Even better, I'm very close to not being prediabetic now, and I couldn't be more thrilled."

"I learned that healthy cooking can be delicious!"

    Lee Boyd, 60

    Blood Sugar: Down 19 points!
Favorite DTOUR meal: "Pesto pizza. It's like a tomato tart that we used to eat all of the time--but with none of the guilt."
Best words of advice: "Don't judge what you're eating until everything's on the plate. I thought I'd never be satisfied with 3 to 4 ounces of protein. But after I combined it with all of the other ingredients, I was never hungry afterward."
